“Do you have a child who is in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development through a special needs or voluntary care agreement? To place a child with extra support needs into the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development is a very painful and challenging decision for any family to make. Often, the family feels judged and guilty. On top of this, during the stress of COVID-19, families have struggled even further to see their child when in care. If this resonates with you, please join other families like yourself for a candid conversation of what this experience has been like for you. Find support and strength in this wider network of families on a similar journey.

Creating your Village

Community is a word that has been getting a lot of attention lately. We all want to build a stronger, more unified, inclusive community but, as individuals, don’t always know where to start. Over the past several months, the Village Team has been working together on a project to solve this problem. Although people are technically connected more than ever, the actual human connection has eroded. Introducing: Village is a mobile app launching in the new year that connects users to their community of people who simply want to help. Whether it be errands, caregiving, housekeeping, item sharing, or emotional support, Village is the key to unlocking the potential of a person’s support network. Village is not another social media network, we are a connection tool so you can spend your time supporting those around you. Village also has a Friend Finder to find people in your area that have similar interests or lifestyles.

We wholeheartedly believe that community is the answer to so many of the issues we face today and that Village is more than just an app but a movement towards a more connected, kind, empathetic world.

We’re In This Together Tuesdays

These virtual meetings are hosted by BC People First members and friends! Join us on Zoom to connect, learn with us, share stories or concerns, and ask questions! We want to have good conversation and connection each week.

You can attend just one meeting or attend every week. Tuesday evenings 7PM to 8PM. We hope you can make it to a few!

Each Tuesday will bring new discussion topics and good conversation with friends. We are here for you! This is a safe space where we can talk about what is affecting us right now, good and bad. We want to hear what you’re feeling about the coronavirus pandemic but also anything else you want us to share with us at BC People First. What matters to you right now? What do you want BCPF to advocate for in our province? Do you have any good things to share with others? Do you have any questions or concerns you want us to pass on for you to CLBC or the government? Overall, we want to connect with our BCPF Members and other Self-Advocates during these times of social distancing while we can’t plan our usual social events and educational activities.

Yoga and Stretching

Relax your way into the weekend… get ready to move, stretch, and breathe.

Join our host, Amanda, for a full-body stretching session to wind down your week. Amanda started doing yoga a few years ago as a way to center herself and come back to her body in anxious moments. You’ll want to be in a comfortable, open space on this call and might like to use some of the following items to set the mood: lighting, incense, a candle, a blanket or sweater, towel or yoga mat, and maybe even a chair.
