FSI Learning Explorations ~ Education/School options for children with special health needs

SESSION INFO: Join Kay Lever, Tessa Diaczun and Dr. Esther Lee from BC Children’s Hospital, Complex Care Program, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Vancouver School Board, to learn about some options for education for CSHCN in BC, and how does the Covid-19 pandemic affect attending school for your medically compromised child.
For families and caregivers with children with special health needs (CSHN) and/or medical complexity. Information about education options for CSHN will be presented. Caregivers invited to submit questions/topics in this area prior to the session so the presenter can address them. There will be a Q&A portion. We will not be able to specific answer questions about your child. Team member of BCCH Complex Care will be present to also answer questions if needed.

Tessa Diaczun is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with the Complex Care Program at BC Children’s Hospital. She also teaches for the UBC NP Program and is involved in the redevelopment of the former Sunnyhill Health Centre as a provincial resource for children and youth with health complexity in BC. Most of her 10 year career as an NP, and prior to that as an RN has been spent working with children and youth with medical and health complexity.
Kay Lever Teacher, Vancouver School Board, currently teaching at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Areas of expertise: Learning Support, Aboriginal Education Enhancement, High School math. I have also worked as an Infant Development Consultant and a Behaviour Interventionist with children with ASD.
