SUMMARY:Lead the way: ACTr for ASD
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will introduce parents\, adults and professionals to the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Training and how this can be applied to neurodivergence\, including learning about the core concepts within the ACTr framework: Acceptance\, Defusion\, Committed Action\, Present Moment Awareness\, Self as Context\, and Values. Whether you’re an adult looking to explore your own neurodivergence\, a parent or a professional attending this workshop\, you can expect to learn something new and participate in a variety of different activities as we apply ACT to our individual lives and also talk about what this might look like in context with others in our lives. This workshop will be focused on learning from a neuroaffirming lens. \n  \nCLICK TO REGISTER ON NOV 3\n  \nPRESENTERS \nColby Anderson\, MSc\, BCBA\, RCC \nColby is a dedicated and compassionate Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Registered Clinical Counsellor with over two decades of experience supporting neurodivergent youth and their families. She has worked extensively with children\, adolescents\, and their families across home\, school\, and community settings. \nDriven by a deep commitment to holistic care and seeing a lack of services in this area\, Colby returned to graduate studies in counselling. Since achieving her RCC designation\, she has been able to integrate behavioral science with therapeutic counselling practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy\, Cognitive Behavior Therapy\, Dialectical Behavior Therapy\, Mindfulness-based techniques\, and more. This has allowed for a more comprehensive framework to support emotional\, behavioral\, and psychological growth for the students that she serves. \nAlong with incorporating these practices into her everyday life\, outside of her clinical work Colby is focused on raising kind\, compassionate daughters and caring for her two rescue bunnies. \nTheresa Jouan\, M.Sc.\, BCBA \nAs a BCBA (St. Cloud State University) with a Master of Science\, Theresa has a passion for collaboratively building strong teams\, for mentoring the next generation of consultants\, improving the quality of life for families and the individuals she works with and desires to do better for the autistic community. Theresa has worked for individuals with ASD ranging in age from 18 months to 24 years for the last 20 years and enjoys working on goals that are in line with family and student values. Theresa supports families and youth with a variety of learning disabilities with a background that includes support in an ABA teaching home\, and both public and private schools. She currently teaches ethics in the ABA-SW program through Surrey College. \nTheresa is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional\, along with a Certified Flash Technique Professional. She hopes to incorporate a more comprehensive approach to family support through the provision of mental health practices. Theresa has applied to the BCACC for an RCC designation while she continues to build her base as a counselling intern\, under the supervision of Dr. Sara White and others.
