Each session includes structured greeting activities\, group activity planning\, gentle in-the-moment coaching\, and feedback on observed and emerging social skill dynamics. \nGroups are themed around ages and interests for participants to make friends and practice their social skills. DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events\nThis month on our FASD Series we will be chatting with self–advocate Lauren Richardson and her mom Jane McIntosh about their mother and daughter relationship\, Laurens’s late FASD diagnosis\, and navigating family life. \nWe are excited to have Lauren as a guest speaker on our FASD Series\, as a member of our FSI FASD working group Lauren has shared and contributed significantly to how we understand FASD from her lived experience. Jane’s personal experience in adopting an atypical child led to career adventures including Chapter Development in Canada and the US for AboutFace-a support and information network for those with facial differences. The development of a hospital-based Family Resource Centre and as a Patient Advocate in a hospital setting. Over the years Jane’s volunteer experiences have been focused on ‘Trying to make a difference through both local and international initiatives. Jane is a true believer in Peer Support and the power of advocacy for those we know and love. We will briefly talk about how to characterize patterns of SIB through structured behavioural observation. Then we will discuss how to identify the motivators that drive SIB through a Functional Behavioural Assessment. Finally\, we will learn how to control SIB through a Practical Functional Assessment. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT\n  \nWhat is Self-Injurious Behaviour (SIB)?\nSelf-Injurious behaviour can be defined as: self-directed injury that is non-suicidal in nature and causes physical trauma. These isolating behaviours may affect children with intellectual impairment\, autism or other forms of neurodiversity. SIB is a multifaceted behaviour that is difficult to understand and treat as the diagnosis varies across individuals. Currently\, proper evidence-based care does not exist\, so it can be extremely challenging to care for children with severe SIB. \nAre you a parent/primary caregiver of a person with Self Injurious Behaviours? Are you passionate about taking your learning to the next level? As a parent/primary caregiver do you want to learn more on how to support yourself and your child? The transition to adulthood is often the start of a period of tremendous learning.” Rachel aspires to help families and individuals who are in the midst of this transition overcome obstacles and find their way to a meaningful life. \n  \nRachel Skidmore | Victoria Chapter\nRachel Skidmore is a mother of two teen girls\, one of whom has neuro and physical diversity. Rachel has a passion for inclusion and believes strongly that employment and community are crucial in ensuring people with Diversity are included in society.  So much so that employment goals have been a part of her daughters IEP’s since kindergarten. Everyone has a gift to share with people\, something they can receive monetary gain with\, even if it is just a few hours a week. \n\nGord Robertson | Prince George Chapter\nGord lives in Prince George with his wife Terry and adult daughter Bree-Anna\, who lives with multiple disabilities. Gord has been a resource parent with the FSI since 2004\, and has spent countless hours helping families navigate their way through many different disability related topics and issues. He and Terry\, together with Bree and her extended family\, first developed a vision for Bree’s life when she was 2 1/2\, and have worked to continually evolve that vision to change with her as her needs\, wants\, and desires changed over her 33 years\, allowing her to lead a great life\, rich in relationships\, experiences and contribution. Married to Debbie for 37 years and have 4 children. Jacob – 33 \, Kayleigh 31\, Adam 30\, Arie 28. We have been living in “ Holland” since 1988 when Kayleigh was born and would not change a thing. Holland is a beautiful place. Kayleigh has multiple challenges\, Global Developmental delay\, diagnosed with Autism at 18. Seizures\, OCD\, Behavioral challenges. Son Arie was born with Lamellar Ichthyosis\, a genetic skin disorder. Today Arie is carving out his own path in the world .\nI Have been in the role as a Regional Network Coordinator since Fall of 2018. Thoroughly enjoying connecting\, supporting\, listening to families all through the East and West Kootenays. “You must be the change you wish to see” resonates with me everyday! A former Youth Probationer will talk about his navigation through the Youth Justice system\, while having FASD. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n  \nGUEST SPEAKER:\nRichard Willier Richard Willier\, BA\, FASD Specialist\, former Douglas College and SFU Criminology graduate\, FASD Collaboration Roundtable member\, planner of the (BC) FASD Fall Conference\, and the Downtown Eastside FASD Conference follows Aboriginal spirituality and is an FASD Advocate. His passion in working with those experiencing FASD’s led him to assist in developing a National FASD Screening Tool in 2007. He’s referred many people for an assessment; created many FASD learning materials and FASD pocket cards; been involved in a number of FASD projects. Richard has presented FASD materials at the International FASD Conference in 2009 & 2019\, and the Annual (BC) FASD Fall Conference at Douglas College a few times\, the Edmonton International Prevention of FASD Conference in 2013\, the 2015 Pre-International FASD Conference for members of the legal system\, among various types of groups since doing an endless number of local\, regional and international FASD presentations to different audiences in BC\, Alberta and Ontario. He has co-facilitated an FASD caregivers group\, and is a former FASD mentor. Richard has been part of the FASD Fall Conference planning committee for the past 12 years and the FASD Collaboration Roundtable group since its inception. DESCRIPTION:Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is hosted by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre. However\, my limited hand function caused by cerebral palsy and the expense of developing film to have only one or two photos turn out precluded me from exploring my interest. I pursued my other passion: computers. A self-proclaimed geek\, I spent 40+ years in the computer field – as a programmer\, instructor and technology specialist. My two interests collided when digital cameras came along.
