SUMMARY:Making your own decisions: When it comes to capacity\, relationships matter
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nThis session is about the twists and turns people experience when their capacity is in question. Getting a capacity assessment is not straightforward. Then\, when capacity is assessed\, the criteria and processes can be narrow and unfriendly.\nIn this session\, we share findings of some of the ways capacity decision-makers make decisions.  We discuss how we think these decisions could be made better by thinking about the people being assessed in terms of their relationships with others.\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:Let's Talk About SIB | Session 05: Things We Take for Granted: Feeding and Toileting
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nAbout this Session:\nToilet training and feeding difficulties are a common issue in pediatric populations. In this session\, we will dive into the importance\, barriers and strategies of overcoming these difficulties. We will discuss an approach to guide parents’ plan and choice of techniques\, depending on the individual child’s learning style and the context. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT\n  \nWhat is Self-Injurious Behaviour (SIB)?\nSelf-Injurious behaviour can be defined as: self-directed injury that is non-suicidal in nature and causes physical trauma. These isolating behaviours may affect children with intellectual impairment\, autism or other forms of neurodiversity. SIB is a multifaceted behaviour that is difficult to understand and treat as the diagnosis varies across individuals. Currently\, proper evidence-based care does not exist\, so it can be extremely challenging to care for children with severe SIB. \nAre you a parent/primary caregiver of a person with Self Injurious Behaviours? Are you passionate about taking your learning to the next level? As a parent/primary caregiver do you want to learn more on how to support yourself and your child? We are bringing to you a unique 6-part series to learn and explore ways to support families and their children. These six sessions are meant to promote education around severe SIB\, to create a supportive SIB community\, as well as to advocate for better health outcomes. \nYou Can Participate in Any of These Ways:\n\nPre-watch any of the 6 series pre-recorded workshops\nPre-watch any of the 6 series pre-recorded workshops then join on event night and participate in our live and interactive Q & A\nJoin us on event night to watch the pre-recorded workshops together followed by our live and interactive Q & A\nJoin the monthly SIB Family Hangout hosted by FSI the last Monday of every month\n\nCLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON ALL OF THE SESSIONS AND TO VIEW PRE-RECORDED WORKSHOPS

SUMMARY:Real Talk: Starter Talks
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nEverybody has questions about dating\, love\, relationships\, and sex. Things like: \n\n\nHow do I meet a boyfriend / girlfriend / partner? \n\n\nHow do I let my family know that I want to date? \n\n\nHow can I make sex safer? \n\n\nWhat is consent? \n\n\nIt’s totally normal. It’s also normal to feel embarrassed discussing this stuff\, or hearing other folks discuss it. Got questions? Feeling awkward to ask them? Don’t worry. Real Talk has an event coming up just for you. \nWe’ve heard from some of our newer participants that they’ve sometimes felt awkward being in the same workshop as other folks who have more experience and who ask more explicit questions. You’ve told us you want a space where it’s okay to be a beginner and to ask beginner questions. \nSo we’ve created a Real Talk event just for folks who either: \n\n\nhave never attended before \nAND / OR \n\n\nfeel very uncomfortable talking about or hearing about sex\, dating or relationships. \n\n\nIt’s called Real Talk Starter Talks. \nIf you’re embarrassed\, don’t worry! We’ll get you the information you’re looking for. We won’t make fun of your questions. We won’t say that your questions are inappropriate. We’ll take things slowly\, with lots of breaks. Relax – it’s the chill version of Real Talk. \nAt this event\, we’ll watch some Real Talk videos\, and have a conversation hosted by a Certified Sexual Health Educator. We’ll talk about where to get good information\, who can support us with this stuff\, and how to figure out confusing situations. Just like with every Real Talk event\, people are welcome to talk about things & ask questions\, or to just listen if they don’t want to talk. \nIf you want a family member\, friend\, or staff member to support you to tune in to the Zoom Hangout\, that’s great. They don’t need to register\, they can just show up with you. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO ATTEND SESSION\nMeeting ID: 859 4611 6732 \nPasscode: 616040 \nReal Talk events are  on Zoom! You’ll need a computer / smartphone / tablet\, headphones\, and (ideally) a private place to watch.
