SUMMARY:Side by Side: What is inclusive education?
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Katie Jameson chronicles the story of her children Kenzie & Wally. Twins navigating the same school system\, but Kenzie\, who has Autism and Down Syndrome\, is navigating a very different journey. Witnessing these two has defined and redefined what inclusion means for them as a family and how different that sometimes looks in the school system. Join Katie as she shares her family’s story of the impact of mindset and how they are (still) navigating the barriers in today’s educational system. We will reflect on how Kenzie’s experience can empower inclusive decision making and advocacy efforts. \n  \nCLICK TO GET TICKETS\n  \nKatie Jameson is a community advocate\, outspoken storyteller and writer who weaves joy and grief into everyday moments. She is the mother of five children: her twins Wally and Kenzie\, her son Woodsy\, her newest baby girl Millie\, and Lochlan\, her first son\, who passed away when he was 22 days old. \nWith the birth of her daughter Kenzie\, Katie and her family also welcomed a beautiful shift into the world of Down Syndrome\, and more recently\, Kenzie received a dual diagnosis of Autism revealing her full vibrant self. For Katie and her family\, advocacy is a love language. Katie is a founder and board member of Down Syndrome BC\, is the co-creator of an adaptive soccer program in Vancouver\, and has a loyal following on social media\, who have fallen in love with a little girl and her family.

SUMMARY:Reactive Behaviours
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events\nSometimes our loved ones communicate their needs in ways that are hard to understand — through what we often call “reactive behaviors” or behaviors that challenge us. These might stem from things like sensory overload\, limited language\, anxiety\, or other unmet needs. \nAs caregivers\, it can feel overwhelming — but you’re not alone. Join our bi-weekly Family Hangout where caregivers come together to share experiences\, support one another\, and explore tools and strategies that others have found helpful. These conversations are rooted in the belief that all behaviour has meaning and that\, as trusted adults\, we can model self-regulation\, adapt our environments\, and work toward meeting the needs behind the behaviour. \nThis call now brings together families from two former groups — Complex Behaviours and Non-Speaking Autism. We welcome all who are navigating this journey and want to learn and connect in a supportive\, non-judgmental space. Let’s come together\, listen\, share\, and build a more inclusive and compassionate path forward — one where everyone’s needs are understood and valued. \n  \nCLICK TO REGISTER\n  \nFamily Support Institute of BC (FSI) is a provincial not-for-profit society committed to supporting families who have a family member with a disability. SUMMARY:At Home in My Body: 2-Part Art Making Experience
DESCRIPTION:A 2-part cohort where we’ll explore our creativity and imagination as felt through the body. By connecting to our body’s impulses and our active imagination\, we may deepen our relationship to ourselves and the ways we feel and express. The art created will be displayed in the Burnaby Stride Fest Art Walk for the community to enjoy and celebrate. \nAn invitation to attune with our body\, to notice how our thoughts\, emotions & sensations arise. Partnering with a witness\, or working alone as per each individual’s comfort\, we move guided by our body’s impulses. Drawing a map or documenting our experience in words\, we begin to build our creative and expressive vocabulary. We then use these as sources of inspiration to create a piece of art using mixed materials. The final pieces will be displayed for the public to enjoy in Burnaby’s Stride Fest Art Walk (March 21-28th 2026). All abilities welcome\, no prior art skills needed. \n  \nJOIN THE EXPERIENCE

SUMMARY:Autism and Taxes Level 1 - All About The DTC
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nThe Disability Tax Credit is not just a simple tax credit but a gateway to many more benefits. Parents may find the application process confusing. Dave is here to help you through the process and interpret all the jargon. \nThis talk is intended for parents of children with autism who have not yet applied (or need to re-apply) for the Disability Tax Credit. \nIf you have a child with autism\, I can guarantee that you are experiencing financial stress. Dave is here to help alleviate some of this stress. \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \nGuest Speaker: David Taylor is the parent of a child with autism and has been running a home-based ABA program for 16 years. David has done extensive research into the financial side of managing an ABA team and has gathered information on all kinds of issues from his own experiences and from feedback from other parents. \nIf you think this may be applicable to you\, please attend. Parents are often shocked by how much they will gain by applying for the Disability Tax Credit. \nDave will not be talking about how to file your taxes or what you may be able to claim. This will be presented in a subsequent talk “Autism and Taxes – Level Two” which we will host again next February. \nPlease do not bring your tax questions to this talk. We will only be discussing the application process. \n  \nPlease note this presentation will be run as an online live webinar. It is open to everyone in British Columbia. This event will be recorded\, but THE RECORDING WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO ATTENDEES.

SUMMARY:FASD and the Law
DESCRIPTION:People with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) are overrepresented in the justice system—yet the system continues to rely on approaches that simply don’t work for them. Challenges with memory\, impulse control\, and vulnerability to manipulation can pull individuals with FASD into repeated contact with police\, courts\, and corrections. Estimates suggest that at least 20% of people in custody live with FASD\, and experts believe the real number is far higher. \nEnter David Boulding—a dynamic speaker\, seasoned lawyer\, and internationally recognized advocate for neuro-informed justice. With his trademark clarity\, insight\, and humour\, David will reveal why traditional justice responses often fail individuals with FASD and what actually leads to better outcomes. He’ll share real-world stories\, practical tools\, and innovative strategies that support safety\, accountability\, and dignity. \nIf you work with\, support\, or care about people with FASD—or if you’re committed to building a more effective and compassionate justice system—this session will deepen your understanding\, spark new ideas\, and offer practical solutions you can use immediately.
