SUMMARY:Webinar Series with Dr. Michael Kendrick
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nTo be human is to be vulnerable. However\, people with disability often live with greater vulnerability than others do.In an attempt to keep people safe it is possible to limit their lives and choices by being over-protective and so worried about risk that they have little chance of experiencing the good things in life.\nJoin CRU for one\, two or all three webinars featuring Dr Michael Kendrick exploring how we can go about securing the good life and supporting choice. Topics covered include Vulnerability and Safeguarding\, Succession and Planning for the Future\, and Dilemmas in Supporting Choice. Held over three Fridays\, you can be part of the CRU-hosted chat to share your reactions and hear from others in an on-going conversation throughout the series.\nThe webinars are pre-recorded and a recording of each will be available to view for 14 days. \nABOUT THE WEBINARS:\nWebinar 1 : Friday 11th February – Vulnerability and Safeguarding (RSVP Feb 4)\nDr Michael Kendrick highlights the importance of recognising and understanding an individual’s vulnerabilities\, and explores ways to manage these areas in a positive\, life expanding way. Recorded in November 2020 the webinar features Lynn Walmsley sharing her family’s experiences\, and a seminar-style presentation by Michael. A CRU consultant will host a live chat during the broadcast. \nWebinar 2 : Friday 18th February – Securing the Good Life: Succession &  Planning for the Future (RSVP Feb 11)\nWith a focus on planning for the future this webinar examines what is worth safeguarding in the long term\, and looks at how we can best ensure a good life for a person with disability continues into the future. Recorded in November 2020 this webinar features Bobby Noone sharing her family’s experiences and a seminar style presentation by DrMichael Kendrick. A CRU consultant will host a live chat during the broadcast. \nWebinar 3 : Friday 25th February – Dilemmas in Supporting Choice (RSVP Feb 18)\nMaking choices can be challenging for any of us\, however\, even if we at times regret our decisions we would not want others to impose their choices upon us. While some people with disability may struggle with understanding and weighing up options\, denying people choice is not the answer.\nRecorded from an event in November 2021\, in this webinar Dr Michael Kendrick invites us to consider some of the dilemmas and responses in supporting others to exercise choice in their lives. A CRU consultant will host a live chat during the broadcast. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS\n  \nAbout the Presenter:\nMichael Kendrick is well known as an educator\, advocate\, consultant and author currently based in Nova Scotia\, Canada.\nHe worked in government and non-government agencies before becoming a consultant. Michael has been a regular visitor to Queensland for over 30 years.\nHe brings an understanding of local and national issues\, as well as an international perspective on the issues that people with disability and their supporters face as they strive to live in their community. \nThese webinars will be of interest to people with disabilities\, their families and workers\, managers\, advocates\, board members and others who have regular involvement in people’s lives. \n  \nCommunity Resource Unit Ltd.\nCRU has a 30 year track record of working across Queensland\, Australia to help people with a disability take control of their lives and take their place in their community. SUMMARY:Let's Talk About SIB | Session 06: Getting to the Source (Hanley Method and other approaches)
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nAbout this Session:\nIn this session\, we will learn about the different behavioural assessments used to treat self-injurious behaviour (SIB). We will briefly talk about how to characterize patterns of SIB through structured behavioural observation. Then we will discuss how to identify the motivators that drive SIB through a Functional Behavioural Assessment. Finally\, we will learn how to control SIB through a Practical Functional Assessment. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT\n  \nWhat is Self-Injurious Behaviour (SIB)?\nSelf-Injurious behaviour can be defined as: self-directed injury that is non-suicidal in nature and causes physical trauma. These isolating behaviours may affect children with intellectual impairment\, autism or other forms of neurodiversity. SIB is a multifaceted behaviour that is difficult to understand and treat as the diagnosis varies across individuals. Currently\, proper evidence-based care does not exist\, so it can be extremely challenging to care for children with severe SIB. \nAre you a parent/primary caregiver of a person with Self Injurious Behaviours? Are you passionate about taking your learning to the next level? As a parent/primary caregiver do you want to learn more on how to support yourself and your child? We are bringing to you a unique 6-part series to learn and explore ways to support families and their children. These six sessions are meant to promote education around severe SIB\, to create a supportive SIB community\, as well as to advocate for better health outcomes. \nYou Can Participate in Any of These Ways:\n\nPre-watch any of the 6 series pre-recorded workshops\nPre-watch any of the 6 series pre-recorded workshops then join on event night and participate in our live and interactive Q & A\nJoin us on event night to watch the pre-recorded workshops together followed by our live and interactive Q & A\nJoin the monthly SIB Family Hangout hosted by FSI the last Monday of every month\n\nCLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON ALL OF THE SESSIONS AND TO VIEW PRE-RECORDED WORKSHOPS
