SUMMARY:Crafting Your Interior Design Vision
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nHave you ever wanted to uncover your inner designer? In this experience we’ll learn about mood boards\, which are a way to create a sense of mood and style for a space. We’ll look at some different examples of mood boards and afterwards\, we’ll work to create our own personal mood boards. We’ll think about designing on a budget and how to create cohesive looks. \nIn a group setting\, you’ll work with magazine cut outs to create mood boards based on things that inspire you. You’ll have the opportunity to think about different types of rooms (for example living rooms\, bedrooms\, dining rooms)\, what pieces of furniture and accessories you typically find in those rooms\, and how you’d like to style those spaces. \nYou’ll meet your host in Burnaby! The exact address will be sent to you when the host confirms the experience! \nJOIN THE EXPERIENCE\n  \nThe space is wheelchair accessible however the front ramp is narrow and there are no automatic doors. Let the host know if you have any accessibility needs. \nThis experience takes place nearby Metrotown in Burnaby. Expect loud traffic sounds. There is one bathroom. Large open space.

SUMMARY:Elephant in the Room
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events \nCome by for a free warm drink and a snack and join us for a facilitated conversation that invites you to get curious about a stranger! Why? \nWe’re taught to be polite with strangers and avoid disagreements – but keeping our distance can also make us feel a little lonely and disconnected. What if we could invite our elephant friends into the room\, and practice engaging with strangers in more meaningful ways ? \nJoin Steph and Aaniya and the Neighbourhood Organizers to foster more moments of connection between neighbours who don’t yet know each other\, and might be quite different to one another! \nThe Neighbourhood Organizers want you to get curious about different perspectives! Together we hope to challenge distrust for difference. This event is drop in so you can come and go as you please! As a guest you get to decide the level of depth that you want to go. Will you be a fly on the wall and just listen in? Will you be a mouse and start with the easy stuff? Will you be a cat and get curious with some more challenging questions? Or will you be a courageous lion and ask about controversial topics! \n  \nJOIN THE EXPERIENCE

SUMMARY:Friendly Feedback Sessions
DESCRIPTION:If you are interested in making your work or ideas more accessible\, bring something you are working on (e.g. presentation\, slide deck\, article\, training materials\, poster\, etc) and anyone that joins this group can choose to provide some suggestions and feedback for you and your project\, or you can join us as an observer to learn the art of how to give and get some friendly feedback! \nOnce a month we will gather on zoom to give and receive feedback on something that we are working on. The reason we do this is because getting feedback and sharing ideas with a diverse group of people helps to improve communication and accessibility. We want everyone to understand and really get what it is we are trying to share! It is also a place for us to practice giving feedback\, because that can be difficult sometimes. \n  \nBOOK YOUR EXPERIENCE

SUMMARY:Autism: Recognizing the Importance of Regulation and Connection
DESCRIPTION:SESSION INFO: « Back to all events\nPresentation:\nChildren with autism have a high tendency to struggle with regulation. Feeling over-stimulated by their environment or having language delays are just two examples of why they may have emotional difficulties. In this presentation\, we will learn how regulation and connection needs to happen before reason. How connecting with your child will result in more success than trying to reason with their behaviors. We will explore the functions of behaviors\, the importance of regulation\, and different ways to connect with your child. This presentation will be based on my clinical practice and the work of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Three R’s. Regulate\, Relate\, and then Reason. \n  \nREGSITER HERE\nGuest Presenter: Zoila Carolina Hall\, MC \nRegistered Psychologist\, Certified Play Therapy Supervisor\, Clinical Director & Owner of Creative Minds Consulting Inc. \nCarolina began her career in the helping field as a Behavioral Therapist in British Columbia. She was mentored under BCBA Certified Behavior Analysts who specialized in working with children on the Autism Spectrum. This experience was fundamental in shaping opportunities in her education and profession.
