Transition to Adulthood during COVID-19: Learning from Canadian Youth with Special Healthcare Needs and their Families to Foster Effective Transitional Care Interventions

In this patient-oriented research project, young adults, parents, and researchers have partnered to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth with special healthcare needs aged 16-24 years, during their transition to adult service. When we talk about special healthcare needs, we mean needs related to developmental, physical, or mental health conditions.

  • Review what we have learned in the first part of the project about experiences, suggested solutions, and priorities, through interviews and surveys with youth and families.
  • Continue the conversation with youth and families about recommendations and priorities to improve healthcare transition for Canadian youth with special healthcare needs.
  • Prioritize actions and strategic recommendations.
