November 2025 marks the 11th Anniversary of Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (IDAM) in Canada and internationally. Created in 2015 by IDC/BCANDS, IDAM recognizes the overwhelming contributions Indigenous Peoples with disabilities bring to all our communities, while highlighting the unique barriers they often face.
IDAM is recognized and proclaimed by countless provinces, organizations and communities across Canada and internationally, and has been recommended by the UN CRPD Committee, to the Government of Canada, to be declared annually.
The Family Support Institute of BC is proud to proclaim November 2025 as Indigenous Disability Awareness Month. We recognize that Indigenous people living with disabilities face unique barriers and issues each day due to the effects of colonialism and systemic marginalization. We also celebrate the achievements of Indigenous peoples living with disabilities and acknowledge the important and valuable contributions they make to our communities socially, economically, and culturally.
FSI is committed to supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and families with disabilities anywhere in BC.
