News Release from FSI applauds BC Provincial Government for long overdue anti-racism legislation

Family Support Institute of BC (FSI) applauds Provincial Government’s new anti-racism legislation

(April 12, 2024 – New Westminster, B.C.)— The Family Support Institute of BC (FSI) welcomes the recent announcement from the Provincial Government regarding the introduction of new anti-racism legislation. The legislation, as outlined in the news release from the Ministry of Attorney General, aims to address systemic racism and discrimination across various sectors within the province.

As an organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of families and individuals with disabilities, FSI recognizes the critical importance of combating racism in all its forms. With our steadfast commitments to Anti-Racism and Truth & Reconciliation, we are encouraged to see tangible steps being taken to address this pervasive issue within our society.

“FSI has long been committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and equity,” states Angela Clancy, Executive Director of FSI. “We believe that everyone deserves to live in a society free from discrimination and prejudice. This legislation is a significant stride towards achieving that goal, and we commend the provincial government for taking proactive measures to combat racism.”

Laranna Scott, Indigenous Practice Advisor at FSI, emphasizes the importance of centering Indigenous perspectives to support anti-racism: “It is imperative that any anti-racism efforts prioritize the voices and experiences of Indigenous communities. As Indigenous peoples, we have experienced the devastating impacts of systemic racism for generations. We stand in solidarity with all marginalized groups and are committed to working collaboratively towards a more just and equitable society.”

FSI encourages continued dialogue and collaboration between government agencies, Indigenous leadership, community organizations, and grassroots initiatives to ensure the effective implementation of this legislation. By working together, we can create a future where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
