Autism: Recognizing the Importance of Regulation and Connection

April 24 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

SESSION INFO: « Back to all events
Presentation:
Children with autism have a high tendency to struggle with regulation. Feeling over-stimulated by their environment or having language delays are just two examples of why they may have emotional difficulties. In this presentation, we will learn how regulation and connection needs to happen before reason. How connecting with your child will result in more success than trying to reason with their behaviors. We will explore the functions of behaviors, the importance of regulation, and different ways to connect with your child. This presentation will be based on my clinical practice and the work of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Three R’s. Regulate, Relate, and then Reason.
