Psycho-Educational Assessments involves psychological testing to analyze a child’s mental processes that underlie his or her educational performance. How do the partners involved in a kid’s education – the school, their guardians and their care providers – know when and how to deploy this tool?
Dr. Lum will share with us about a psych-ed assessment, in general, and how the VSB uses this tool across the district.
Dr. John Lum is the District Psychologist in the Vancouver School Board and provides academic and behavioural support across the district as part of the Urgent Intervention Process (UIP) team. He is a Registered Psychologist and certified BC teacher. John has experience completing psychoeducational and autism assessments in both school and clinic settings.
PIE is a group of people interested in inclusive education. Based out of Gordon Elementary (VSB), we are parents, educators, professionals and school staff who consider each other partners in creating an inclusive community for our school. Join us for an evening of learning and open collaboration. We welcome people from neighbouring schools and districts, so please spread the word about PIE and our meetings.

As a provincial organization, Family Support Institute acknowledges that our work spans across all of the traditional, ancestral and unceded Indigenous territories in BC. Therefore, we respectfully honour all First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, as well as their ancestors, who have lived here and cared for these lands. It is with gratitude that we can live, learn and do our work in the province now known as British Columbia.
